The fasal inductor is an important element of the wah sound, but it can be over hyped in my opinion. People talk about the mass produced fasals that are stock on Vox 847s and Dunlop GCB-95s being out of spec and unreliable. I really don’t notice it and I handle a lot of wahs. The fasal adds a more subtle voicing to the wah and some people really go for the different flavour that another fasal can offer. A big seller is the Whipple Inductor which can be sourced on Ebay quite easily.
I keep a small stock of Red and Yellow fasals for my mods and can pass these on if you want to experiment.
I also do the Dexter Mods ‘Wild Wah’ mod which is my take on the Zakk Wylde ZW-1 wah, which is in fact my wah of choice these days after it booted my DOD FX17 off my pedal board after 2o years.
The ZW-1 is essentially a GCB-95 with a red fasal, the same sweep cap as the JH-1 and a couple of resistor changes. Plus all the resistors are 1% tolerance so the circuit follows the original spec more accurately.
